OCALA -- Ocala's longtime mayor Kent Guinn made his decision, and announced he is running as a conservative to fill the seat of retiring Congressman Ted Yoho.

Guinn posted a video announcement on YouTube

Guinn won his fifth consecutive term as mayor last fall. He says, like Yoho, he will term-limit himself to eight years in Washington.

Guinn enters a crowded field in the GOP primary. Six others have announced: Kat Cammack, Joe Dallas Millado, Gavin Rollins, Judson Sapp, James St. George and Amy Pope Wells.  Former Gainesville Commissioner Todd Chase is among other considering entering the race. Three candidates are running in the Democratic primary.

Florida’s Third District spans all or parts of Alachua, Clay, Marion, Putnam and Union counties.
