2 guilty verdicts in Cloud 9 nightclub shooting

Laquan Barrow and Michael Smith guilty of second-degree murder

OCALA -- An Ocala jury deliberated about three hours before finding Laquan Barrow and Michael Smith guilty of shooting into a crowd outside of the Cloud 9 nightclub.  19-year-old Benitria Robinson was killed in the shooting, and five more were injured.

The shooting occurred September 13, 2015 at the club on South Pine Ave. Barrow and Smith were found guilty of second-degree murder and five counts each of attempted murder.

Immediately after the verdict, Judge Anthony Tatti sentenced Smith to life in prison, with a minimum mandatory incarceration of 20 years. Barrow’s sentencing date was not set.

The jury has not reached a verdict for a third defendant, Gary King. King faces second-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder in the shooting.
